10 Kenyan Celebrities That Have Confessed to Being HIV Positive

HIV/AIDS is one of the most feared diseases in the world. The thought of it alone is heart sinking. It brings the facade of a macho guy down. It collapses the ego of a voluptuous lady, bruising her self-image.

To many, being infected by HIV/AIDS is enough to ruin a life, and therefore, they will always think of it as the last frail straw in the back of a camel, end of.

To many, being infected by HIV/AIDS deals a death blow to someone's life, therefore, they will prefer to keep their HIV status hidden in the depths of their heart. 

In Kenya, the possibility of an individual infected with HIV/AIDS opening up about his/her status to the public is few and far between.

Being tested positive for HIV/AIDS for a celebrity is heart-wrenching and it would mean a clean break to their lifestyle, at least that's what they think. Many celebrities fear to tell the world the truth behind their positive HIV/AIDS status. However, some have displayed courage, and vividly mentioned the feared "positive" HIV/AIDS status.

Across the world, the HIV/AIDS status is a subject of confidentiality.

Below is a list of popular Kenyan celebrities who confessed to being HIV positive.

1. Frigacy

Frigacy, identified as George Kihara remains to be the first Kenyan celebrity to confess being positive to the deadly virus. He opened up to the public by shining light on his HIV status back in 2013.

Speaking to the media, the mpenzi hitmaker mentioned that he was so drawn to drugs while in form 2 at age 16. He would later remain hooked to drugs until finishing his high school education in 2010. Once out of the strain of a stern and stringent school administration, Frigacy had the elbow room to drink smoke and party, not knowing that there was a beast of a virus waiting for him at the extreme end of his enjoyment.

After a long stretch of bopping to erotic-laced parties in Nairobi's local clubs and pubs, Frigacy tested positive for HIV. After constantly being encouraged, Frigacy accepted his condition and opened to the public about his status. Unfortunately, he died a year later.

2. Joji Baro

Joji Baro is a gospel gay artist who publicly opened up to the public about being HIV positive. This would stun his fans for a long while. Baro became famous after putting forth a strong fight for the rights of Gays and Lesbians in Kenya.

3. Richard Amuok

Richard Amuok is a guru when it comes to hip-hop. His musical prowess made him a strong force behind Uko Flani, one of the largest music bands that dominated the 90s. Richard Amuok life was better pronounced as Live first die young. Weeks passing without having a temptress wiggling erratically for him would smell disaster to him. 

Amuok would blur to the background possible signs and symptoms of HIV. However, in 2010, after the going got tough, Richard Amuok decided to test for HIV, and surely enough, he was positive. 

In 2012, after encouragements won over his denial, Amuok accepted the fact that he was HIV positive and made it public.

4. Doreen Moraa

Doreen Moraa,25, has been HIV positive since birth. Moraa made her HIV status public in a powerful testimony about her life that revealed the hidden truth that her parents were discordant with one being HIV positive.

In the threshold of adulthood, Moraa was taken to the ICU after being critically sick. It was after this treatment that doctors realized she had HIV. 

She mentioned that after accepting her condition, she wholeheartedly embraced ARVs and has led a healthy life ever since.
