Caroline Kangogo and her personal doctor
Fugitive policewoman Caroline Kangogo withdrew Sh40,000 from a bank in Juja, Kiambu county on Monday, it has emerged.
Detectives investigating the murder of two men have established that the money was withdrawn from a bank in the densely-populated township to enable her move around.
Sources privy to the investigations also said they were pursuing revenge as the possible motive for the attacks, which have left two suspected lovers, police constable John Ogweno and Juja businessman Peter Ndwiga dead.
Kangogo hit the headlines on Monday morning when Ogweno, who was attached to the Nakuru Central Police Station, was found dead inside his car at Kasarani Police Line in Nakuru town with a gunshot wound on his head.
Kangogo immediately went underground and only resurfaced in Juja, Kiambu County on the same day, in the company of a male companion.
A police signal stated that Kangogo had spent the night with Ndwiga, whose body was found at a hotel room in Kiambu.
The two had booked room number 107 at the Hotel Dedamax at 4pm on Monday where they spent the night.
At around 1pm Tuesday, the owner of the hotel, Peter Mugeshi informed the police that one of his clients had been found dead inside a room.
CCTV footage captured Kangogo, dressed in a yellow hoodie, leaving the hotel at around 12.30am on Tuesday.
Another screen grab of the footage obtained from cameras at the VIP lounge shows her walking into the hotel with the deceased.
Yesterday, detectives confided in People Daily that Kangogo could be holed up in the sprawling Mathare slums in Nairobi.
A police signal stated that Kangogo was last seen on Tuesday night boarding a motorbike at Kahawa Wendani, which was then driven to Thika Road and branched off at Drive Inn stage.
It has also emerged that on the night Ndwiga was killed, Kangogo allegedly sent threatening messages to four men, suspected to be her former or current lovers, leading to the belief that she was on a revenge mission.
She has vowed she will kill the four men before killing herself or be apprehended.
Ronald kipsang, Peter mbithi, Ian Wafula and James Nganga are the names of the four men she Leaked to the police.
The revelations emerged even as a postmortem report on Ndwiga’s body, revealed he was killed by single bullet.
The postmortem conducted at the General Kago morgue in Thika, Kiambu county revealed the bullet entered the left region around the ear and exited on the right side.
Domestic squables
At the morgue, Ndwiga’s family members including his two widows watched pensively, visibly shocked at the manner in which the deceased lost his life.
One of his widows, Purity Wanderi described her husband as a man of good character whose death caught her by surprise.
“I only realised about his death through his brothers who came calling yesterday. I had not heard about it,” she told People Daily.
Wanderi, 37, who has a son with Ndwiga said that although they separated in 2012 following frequent domestic squabbles, they used to talk and the man continued to support the family.
“My only child with him is a Class Eight boy, who is still not aware of the tragedy. Ndwiga used to call me and he would talk with our son for long,” she said.
Wanderi, who married Ndwiga in 2006, said he started as a driver before venturing into wholesale business dealing with food items. Ndwiga’s other wife, only identified as Margaret, was too distraught to talk to journalists.
In the sleepy Nyawa village in Elgeyo Marakwet county, Kangogo’s relatives were still in shock following the killings.
Relatives who spoke to People Daily described Kangogo, 34, as a humble woman who seldom disagreed with anyone.
Kangogo’s father Barnaba Korir and mother Leah Jepkosgei Kangogo sat pensively outside their home as neighbours streamed in to console them.
“Hatujaamini kama familia kuwa mtoto wetu ndiye alifanya hivyo (we are yet to believe that our daughter committed the murders). We sincerely apologise to the two families who lost their loved ones,” said Korir.
He said she had spoken with her daughter early this week and there was nothing to suggest something was wrong.
“She was a very humble girl. I’m shocked at the news that he killed two people. Tunasema pole kwa familia hizo (we are sorry to the families),” said a tearful Mrs Kangogo. The family said the police officer, their first born, kept many things to herself.
“Instead of killing two people, she could have opened up to us. We are devastated as a family,” said Mrs Kangogo.
According to Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri, Corporal Kangogo was a reputable law enforcer.
“We are shocked by the news. Since her employment, the officer has maintained a professional work ethic and at no instance did we notice any cases of indiscipline at work or in her private life,” said the police boss.
