Waiguru endorses Raila odinga

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has insisted that ODM leader Raila Odinga means well to the women of the country, arguing that he's one of few people advocating for women rights.

In yet another statement that could cause controversy, Waiguru, who spoke in Kilifi on Friday, also hailed Mr Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta for the handshake that has brought peace and stability in the country.

She said that the decision by the two to work together was a huge reprieve to women since they are the ones who suffer during election violence.

"Women suffer most when countries go into violence. That's why we support the Handshake between H.E The President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga," she said.

"Particularly, Raila has often demonstrated his faith in women leadership. He has done that through action and we believe that he will deliver," she added.

Early this month, Waiguru sparked a heated debate in Mt. Kenya when she openly said that the populous region will embrace Mr Odinga in 2022.

According to her, the region should project itself for another position other than presidency, arguing that other communities may not be ready for another Kikuyu president.

“Raila understands the challenges women are facing. He has spoken firmly about it even during the funeral of Joyce Laboso (the former Bomet Governor),” Waiguru said, insisting that women must have representation at the executive level.

The former Devolution minister is keen to inherit Mt Kenya voting block from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is set to retire in 2022.
