The relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has been known to be the perfect definition of Kenyan 'bromance’.
Kenyatta is said to be fiercely protective of his deputy, so much so that he at one time blocked Ruto from leaving State House after security concerns were raised.
In a past interview with the Daily Nation, a State House official narrated the events of an incident in 2014 when the Deputy President (DP) visited Kenyatta.
Ruto is said to have driven to State House in a personal car and was only accompanied by one bodyguard.
Kenyatta is said to have been shocked at the carefree attitude from the DP at a time when the country was facing occasional terror attacks.
The President responded by holding Ruto at State House until a light motorcade arrived to escort him out.
“The President was shocked. He told Ruto that he must use at least three cars when on low key travel. Do you know Ruto was not allowed to leave State House until his motorcade arrived?” the State House official narrated.
The official’s narration seems to be corroborated by a video that appeared in 2014 as the President was leaving for a foreign visit.
In the video, President Kenyatta was overheard warning his deputy to restrict movement of top officials, including that of his wife.
