A woman claiming to have engaged in a romantic affair with Jubilee nominated MP Maina Kamanda has moved to Nairobi Children's Court over child support.

In a sworn affidavit, Esther Wanjiku, a nominated Member of County Assembly in Nyandarua, asked that the MP to be compelled to pay KSh 220,000 maintenance fee for the child after he abdicated his role.

According to Wanjiku who filed the suit on behalf of the child she allegedly bore with Kamanda, the amount would cater for basic needs required for the upbringing of the minor.
Among other necessities, the nominated MCA wants the vocal MP with an inclination to the Kieleweke faction of Jubilee to pay KSh 70,000 rent, utility bill of KSh 35,000, food at KSh 30,000 and milk and fruits worth KSh 10,000 every month.

Through her lawyer, P. K Njiri, the complainant also urged the court to order Maina to pay for the child's school fees upon attaining school-going age.
Wanjiku accused the seasoned politician of neglecting his parental obligations despite being a man of means and a prominent businessman, saying she wants their child to grow up in similar conditions to that of the father.
The two have been battling over child support since 2013 when she first made the application before the high court.
However, there has never been any proceeding since then, prompting her lawyer to apply for certificate of urgency in the fresh application.

"The defendant (Maina Kamanda) has refused to contribute in payment of the minor's upkeep and plaintiff (Esther Wanjiku) is not in a position to pay the same. Therefore if this application is denied, the minor will be subjected to untold suffering," Njiri pleaded.
