Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday warned against the dividing Kenyans along tribal lines using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Ruto was in Khwisero Sub-County, Kakamega County, where he said that a team led by ODM party leader Raila Odinga was taking advantage of the BBI process to divide Kenyans.“Those saying that nobody can stop reggae in regards to the BBI report should wait and witness it being stopped by Kenyans,” the DP said.
The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process is a brainchild of the handshake between former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto stated that he would use the benevolence of Kenyans to prevent people from using the process to spread discord.
He further said that would not allow leaders to use the BBI report to mislead Kenyans and tone down the development plan of the Jubilee government.
The DP said no one was opposing the BBI report, and that the rallies should not be used to divert the Government’s attention while it is serving Kenyans.
“No one is against the BBI report. We should not use these meetings to divert the attention of the Government while it is offering services to Kenyans,” Ruto said, adding that the Raila-led BBI meetings had lost favor among Kenyans.
“We cannot stop the government development projects simply because a few individuals against the 47 million Kenyans want to create political posts for themselves,” he added.
Ruto was accompanied by Members of Parliament and other leaders including Benjamin Washiali (MP Mumias East), Malulu Injendi (MP Malava), Didmus Barasa (MP Kimilili), Mwambu Mabonga (MP Bumala), Dan Wanyama (MP Webuye East), Enock Kibunguchy (MP Likuyani), Charles Gimose (MP Hamisi) and former Kakamega County Senator Bonny Khalwale.
Benjamin Washiali challenged the ODM party leader Raila Odinga to disclose the source of funds he was using to plan the many BBI meetings.
Khalwale bashed leaders who were purporting to be speaking for the Luhyas and making alliances with individuals whom he said were belonging to political dynasties.
