"I am looking for a job even if it pays 200 bob"Dennis Oliech opens up on Why he became broke

Legendary Kenyan footballer Dennis Oliech has revealed that he had to sell his property to foot cancer treatment for his late mother Mary Auma and brother Kevin Oliech.

In a video clip seen by this publication, Oliech disclosed that he spent a total of Ksh124 Million while trying to save the lives of his two kin who eventually lost the battle.

” Mum’s treatment cost me Sh40 Million while I spent Sh84 Million on Kevin. There is no reason for owning property while your brother is sick in hospital. What will you do with that wealth?” Oliech posed.

Kevin, a former Mathare United player, died in August 2020 in Germany on his way to the United States where he was to undergo treatment for cancer. The  33- year old played for Tusker, Ushuru, Thika United and Nairobi City Stars as well as German fifth tier side KFC Uersdingern 05.

His death came just two years after his mother passed away in July 2018. The health condition of the two seemed to have drained the financial muscle of the former Harambee Stars captain with  a lot of speculations that he was broke.

In 2017 a photo of an unkept and frail looking former Ajaccio striker went viral reasserting the assumption that he was penniless.

However his mother was quick to come to his defense at the time while hitting back at Kenyans over their hypocrisy.   She explained that her son had used his money on her treatment.

“It is very unfortunate Kenyans are accusing my son of being broke and living a pathetic life, yet he is the one who at one point raised the Kenyan flag high when his goal helped Stars to qualify for their last Africa Cup of Nations event in 2004,” she said.

“Oliech used a lot of money to help me battle Lymphoma Cancer a condition which I had been struggling with for over eight years and if it was not attended to immediately I would have died.

“Kenyan doctors had failed to treat me of my disease and that is why Oliech decided to fly me to France for specialised treatment at one of the best medical centres in Paris.”

During his heydays, the 36- year old lived a lavish lifestyle where he was reportedly earning approximately Sh400 million in salaries.

The veteran footballer retired from active sports in 2019 having played his last assignment with local champions Gor Mahia.

“I have officially retired from playing football and will venture into business. I had stated when I left Gor Mahia that I would bounce back by joining Wazito or Bandari, but nothing is forthcoming and that is why I have not seen any need to continue. I have retired both international and at a club level,” he said.

Oliech scored 35 goals for the Kenya national team one of which was critical for the country’s qualification to the 2004 African Cup of Nations held in Tunisia.
