Kiraitu Murungi blasts Raila days after Sagana meeting, predicts the number of votes Raila will get in MT Kenya

Just days after attending the Sagana III meeting, where President Uhuru Kenyatta officially endorsed ODM Leader Raila Odinga for president as he gave the Mt. Kenya region the political direction ahead of the August 9th General Election, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi is once again sending mixed signals about supporting Raila.

Speaking in Isiolo over the weekend, Kiraitu hit out at Raila’s campaign agenda, which seeks to give the vulnerable people in Kenya a Ksh6,000 stipend.

"Raila and uhuru should stop lying to Kenyans, the most votes Raila can get from the Mount Kenya region Is only 50,000

He also castigated Deputy President William Ruto, saying both he and Raila were cut from the same cloth as they were making unattainable promises to Kenyans during campaigns.

He poured cold water on Ruto’s plan to inject Ksh100 billion shillings to help uplift greengrocers and the youth who have been living from hand to mouth through his bottom-up economic model.

“There are some who are going around claiming that if they ascend to power, they will give each family Ksh6,000. Others are saying that they will give out Ksh100 billion to uplift the youth and greengrocers. Please spare us that talk,” the Meru County boss stated.

Kiraitu questioned where Raila and Ruto would get the money from and why they would not use the current revenue generation systems to better the lives of Kenyans.

“Who has that kind of money in their pocket? Where are they getting it from? For my case, I will only promise to use the taxes that we collect from you to use for projects,” Kiraitu noted

He urged the two political bigwigs not to further stretch the country’s debt burden but instead use devolution to collect revenue and appropriately allocate counties’ funds using a formula that would see everyone benefit from the same.
