Five-year-old Dylan Gakara and Karuana Gakara, three, were found dead on the night of Saturday, September 18, and their father, James Gakara, a gynaecologist was found lying unconscious in suspected cases of murder and attempted suicide.

According to a report by the Daily Nation, the distraught mother regretted that she had not done enough to protect her kids but she promised to fight for justice for them.
"My heart is shattered; I failed to protect you my loves. The person you trusted the most betrayed you my darlings, I promise to fight for justice for you; go well my sweethearts," she said.
Reports indicated that Winnie Odhiambo, the wife of the doctor, had travelled to Nairobi on the day that the children were killed. The doctor had called Winnie earlier that day as he was having lunch with the children.
Foul play On Monday, September 20, the doctor's family came out to defend him from the allegations he took his children's lives. Gakara's sister, Mary Gakara, said the suspect loved his children and could not have ended their lives further alluding to foul play in the incident. “I know my brother very well. He would do anything to protect his children. He is also not the kind of person to commit such an act,” she said.
Mary said the medic happily lived with his family and was not involved in any wrangles. Drugs and syringes at crime scene Gakara allegedly committed the crime on the night of Saturday, September 18, at his home in Kiamunyi Estate. Nakuru county police commander Beatrice Kiraguri confirmed the incident saying the children were drugged. Kiraguri said that they also found several vials of drugs and syringes and a knife after accessing the crime scene.
